"Turn to Stone" is a 1977 song by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).
The song is the opening track to the double album Out of the Blue. It was the first song released as a single from the LP. The single reached No. 18 in the United Kingdom charts and spent twelve weeks on the chart. Out of four singles from the album, "Turn to Stone" was the only song not to reach the top ten in the United Kingdom singles charts. The song reached No. 13 in the United States and number one in Canada in early 1978.
The song was composed in Switzerland during Jeff Lynne's two week writing marathon for his double album. Lynne played the Moog bassline of the song.

The Shirts - Laugh And Walk Away b/w Maybe, Maybe Not (1979)

The Shirts are a New York-based American punk band, which was formed in 1975. The band’s early existence (1975 to 1981) was closely linked with CBGB, a music club in the Bowery, but it reformed with many of the early members in 2003 and is currently active.
Thorne chose to record the band’s second album, Streetlight Shine (1979), at Mediasound Studio in New York City. The resulting sound was much more eclectic than their debut album, and the album was again a financial and critical success in Europe, the single Laugh and Walk Away again charting high in the Netherlands. However, breakthrough in the US market continued to elude the band.

Thin Lizzy - Don't Believe A Word b/w Old Flame (1976)

Thin Lizzy are a rock band formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Two of the founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist and lead vocalist Phil Lynott, met while still in school. Lynott led the group throughout their recording career of twelve studio albums, writing most of the material.
Thin Lizzy's most successful songs, "Whiskey in the Jar" (a traditional Irish ballad), "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town", were all major international hits.
The song "Don´t Believe A Word" was originally written as a ballad by Phil Lynott, before the guitarist Brian Robertson and drummer Brian Downey rocked it up.
The lyrics, which were written by Lynott, tell of a man warning his loved one not to believe his words as he cannot be relied upon. The chorus sums it up: "Don't believe a word/For Words are only spoken/Your Heart is like a promise made to be broken."

Kraftwerk - The Model b/w The Man Machine (1978)

Kraftwerk (German pronunciation: "power station") is a German electronic music band formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970 in Düsseldorf. In the 1970s, they were among the first successful pop acts to popularize electronic music and are widely considered to be innovators and pioneers of the genre. The band was fronted by both Hütter and Schneider until Schneider's departure in 2008.
"The Robots" (originally Die Roboter) is a single by the influential German electronic music pioneers, Kraftwerk, released in 1978. The single and its The Man Machine, both appeared on the band's seventh album, The Man-Machine. However, the songs as they appear on the single were scaled down into shorter versions.
The lyrics reference the revolutionary technique of robotics, and how humans can use them as they wish. The Russian lines "Я твой слуга" (Ya tvoy sluga, I'm your servant) and "Я твой работник" (Ya tvoy rabotnik, I'm your worker) (also on the rear sleeve of the album) during the intro and again during its repetition at the bridge are spoken in a pitched down voice, the main lyrics ("We're charging our batteries and now we're full of energy...") are "sung" through a vocoder. Wolfgang Flür, a member of Kraftwerk at the time of the single's release, later wrote Ich war ein Roboter (I Was a Robot in English), with his title referencing the lyrics of "The Robots". The book, published in 2003, has been described as a "controversial and uncompromising autobiography of Kraftwerk", more because the other members of the band tried to censor its publication than anything else. The lyrics were also referenced in the title of a BBC Radio 4 documentary, Kraftwerk: We Are the Robots, broadcast for the first time on Thursday November 22, 2007. The documentary focused on the band's place as "part of a new generation of young West Germans, living in the shadow of the Cold War, who identified with the need to recapture a German cultural identity distinct from that of Britain and America."

"Owner of a Lonely Heart" was released in October 1983, as the album's first single. Golden Earring - Just Like Vince Taylor b/w Radar Love (1977)

This is a fairly run-of-the-mill mid-tempo rock number. The title suggests it might be a tribute song, but it is really a song about what happened - or what didn't happen - on a night out with a girl who made the narrator feel just like Vince Taylor, or dress like him at any rate, if the reference to greased hair, leather and chains is anything to go by.

Brian Holden (1939-91) - who took the stage name Vince Taylor - was one of the countless nearly men of rock 'n' roll; he was born in Isleworth, West London, emigrated to the United States as a young boy where his father worked in the mining industry, and ended up in Hollywood through a family connection where he embarked on his ill-fated music career. He enjoyed some success in both his native England and France, but like many bigger names he turned to both alcohol and drugs, and by and large faded from sight. He died from cancer in August 1991

When this song was written, Taylor was still very much alive, although his fifteen minutes of fame was long over. A passable live version with jangling guitars and sounding anything but live was recorded as the B Side of a 1977 live version of the band's biggest hit by far, "Radar Love".

The Human League - The Lebanon b/w Thirteen (1984)

The Human League are an English electronic new wave band formed in Sheffield in 1977.
"The Lebanon" is a song by the British synthpop group The Human League, released as a single in April 1984. Written jointly by lead singer Philip Oakey and keyboard player Jo Callis, it was the first single from the band's fourth album Hysteria, and was recorded at AIR Studios between 1983-1984.
The song was conceived, written and recorded at a time when the band was under considerable pressure to follow up the enormous international success of their previous album, Dare. The band had taken up residence in the £1000 a day AIR Studios; they were there a full year and were agonizing (and arguing) over every note of every track.
With its heavy use of bass and rock guitars, "The Lebanon" was a radical departure from the established synthpop sound of the Human League. Though the song does employ some keyboards, the use of guitars by the band was not lost on music critics who brought up the "no guitars rule" that the band had publicly adopted in 1981.
The lyrics were an attempt to make a statement on the Lebanese civil war which had been exacerbated by Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon of 1982. In a television interview, Human League member Philip Adrian Wright commented that Oakey's politically-charged lyrics were written specifically about the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Human League singer Susan Ann Sulley said of the song that the band "wanted to speak up for the little people" and say something about the situation in Lebanon at the time, and that the band was not trying to be political for the sake of it. The band were criticized at the time for being banal and "out of their depth".

Keith Emerson - Honky Tonk Train Blues b/w Barrelhouse Shake-Down (1976)

Keith Noel Emerson (2 November 1944 – 11 March 2016) was an English musician and composer. He played keyboards in a number of bands before he found his first commercial success with the Nice, formerly P. P. Arnold's backing band, in the late 1960s. He became internationally famous for his work with the Nice, which included writing rock arrangements of classical music. After leaving the Nice in 1970, he was a founding member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), one of the early progressive rock supergroups. Emerson, Lake & Palmer were commercially successful through much of the 1970s, becoming one of the best-known progressive rock groups of the era.
In 1976, while still in ELP, Emerson also released his first solo record, the single "Honky Tonk Train Blues" b/w "Barrelhouse Shake-Down". "Honky Tonk Train Blues", Emerson's cover of a 1927 boogie-woogie piano song by Meade Lux Lewis, reached #21 on the UK Singles Chart.

In Tua Nua is an Irish rock group who achieved a measure of fame and success in both Ireland and Europe throughout the late 1980s. Their name is a phonetic spelling of the Irish An Tuath Nua, "the new tribe."
In 1986, the new look In Tua Nua played the Self Aid concert. Newly signed to Virgin Records the band released "Seven Into the Sea", one of their most popular recordings. An album Vaudeville was released in early 1987.
